Carolina Marin has made history again. Madrid 2022 has been the stage where Carolina Marin has been proclaimed European champion for the sixth time in a row. The Municipal Sports Center of Gallur, dressed in full dress for the occasion and with its full capacity, witnessed the exciting victory of the Spaniard against the Scottish Kirsty Gilmour , with a score of 21-10 and 21-12. Carolina Marin has made history again, showing her optimal physical and mental condition, in her excellent return to the track after 11 months sidelined due to injury. Carolina Marin’s victory was big moment for this continental event, which has the support of Iberdrola as main sponsor, as well as sponsors such as Banco Santander and ElPozo.
Different authorities didn´t want to miss the opportunity to experience the best level of European badminton. The president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, attended the day of the finals; also the president of Badminton Europe, Peter Tarcala; the deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís; the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco; the General Director of Sports of the Madrid City Council, Alicia Martín Pérez; the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi; and the president of the Madrid Badminton Federation, Ernesto Baschwitz.
In the men’s singles modality, Viktor Axelsen  achieved his third European title against his partner Anders Antonsen  in two sets: 21-17 and 21-15. The match showed high level of both players, leaving points to remember in the retina of the spectators.
With the permission of Carolina Marin and Viktor Axelsen, Germany was the great winner of Madrid 2022. In the mixed doubles modality, Mark Lamsfuss – Isabel Lohau , came from behind against the French duo Thom Gicquel – Delphine Delrue , 16-21, 22-20 and 21-16, in the closest match of the day. For his part, Mark Lamsfuss repeated European gold in the men’s doubles modality with Marvin Seidel, after beating the Scottish duo Alexander Dunn – Adam Hall , 21-17 and 21-16.
Finally, the Stoeva sisters, Gabriela and Stefani, were proclaimed European champions in the women’s doubles category for the third time in a row. The Stoeva duo solved the match against the Germans Linda Efler – Isabel Lohau , 21-14 and 21-10, without too much difficulty, winning the continental gold.
The European Badminton Championship Madrid 2022 has caused a furor in the capital of Spain, which is also the World Capital of Sport 2022.
